Group 88 is CT’s first co-op for more details see their website.
I can only see this being a good thing for Hartford and the creatives involved. One of the biggest drawbacks working alone (self employed) is the isolation and your inability to bounce ideas off of other creative people. With a decent mix of people I think this could be huge for networking and, well as the name might suggest, cooperation.
Other benefits include professional meeting space, a steady address other than your home, and they have fresh coffee.
I’m interested in seeing how the social dynamics of the group work out. I want to join the group for networking and the above stated reasons. My only complaint would be the constricting hours of operation (9-6pm M-F don’t know about weekends). If I was working full tilt I’m not stopping just because you’re closing. Lock me in.
Maybe this is why I work from home.

You learn things every day. Here is what I learned yesterday on a green set.
Tighter fitting clothes are better than loose fitting clothes.
Darker hair is better than lighter hair.
Hair should all be in once “clump” with as little friz or loose hair as possible. This is not a requirement, but makes the video editing a lot easier with a minimum of seizure flicker.
Reflective materials, even slightly reflective materials like nylon, are no good to varying degrees.
Under lighting is a must. It takes the black out of cast shadows under the chin and around the eyes.
Hopefully I’ll be applying this knowledge again soon. I had a ton of fun working on set. I can’t wait to post the final video and link to the site.

I’m having a great time teaching at University of Hartford, but unfortunately its taking up more time than I had thought it would leaving little extra time to write, read, and research new things.
I’m making all my sites without tables now and doing some pretty complex stuff with the css. I’ve got more work coming in and if this keeps up Ill have an office with interns and staff in about a year.
Been looking for space in Hartford, or the surrounding area that reasonably priced. Old Mills or lofts preferred. Open to suggestion.
